Why the Bündner Herrschaft?
Maienfeld, Fläsch, Jenins and Malans form, on barely 420 hectares of vineyards, one of the smallest and at the same time most renowned wine-growing regions in Switzerland. Trademark: fine Pinot Noirs that regularly hold their own against Burgundy in blind tastings, and expressive Completer, an ancient Grisons white grape variety found almost nowhere else.
Names like Gantenbein, Donatsch, Adank or von Tscharner are part of the first league of the Swiss wine scene. At the wine festival you can cover in a single weekend what would otherwise take you several days driving through the whole region.

The most important family wineries of the Bündner Herrschaft are there. You can talk directly with the winegrowers instead of a salesperson in a shop.
100+ wines to taste
Pinot Noir in all aging variants, Completer as a rare specialty, Chardonnay, Riesling-Sylvaner, Sauvignon Blanc. A realistic cross-section of the region.
30+ stands in the old town
Wine, regional specialties and crafts. Bündnerfleisch, cheese from the Rhine valley, regional products. Enough of a base for the evening.
Three days of programme
Friday, Saturday, Sunday. The detailed programme is added on an ongoing basis by the organiser. Those who plan two days instead of just one get more out of it.
Tips for your visit
Come by public transport
Maienfeld station is a five-minute walk from the festival grounds. From Zurich main station directly by IR/IC in a good hour. If you drink, you don't drive. Maienfeld is much more relaxed to reach by public transport than by car.
Avoid the Saturday hype
Friday afternoon and Sunday morning are, in our experience, quieter. Saturday is always the big day, and therefore also the busiest.
Make a list beforehand
With 100+ wines you can't try everything. Pick out three or four winegrowers who interest you in advance. You'll discover the rest along the way anyway. Method in the wine tasting guide.
An overnight stay is worth it
Maienfeld has a few inns, and in neighbouring Bad Ragaz there are larger hotels. Book early, the festival is well known in the region.
Combine with a winery visit
Many Bündner Herrschaft wineries have open doors in early September for individual visits. On the festival day itself no appointment is possible, but the day before or after is worth it.
