Südhang is one of our favourite addresses for wine around Zurich, and once each summer they open their big tasting in Rüschlikon. Three days, a circus tent right by Lake Zurich and wine across the whole range: from the easygoing summer pour to thoroughly honest terroir to the rare bottle. Free entry, just taste away. Exactly the kind of wine event we love.

What to expect
Wine from easygoing to rare
Südhang lines up the whole range: light summer wines to drink away, honest terroir wines and a few rare bottles for the curious. You walk through and taste whatever appeals to you.
In the circus tent by the lake
Tasting takes place in a circus tent overlooking Lake Zurich. No stiff trade-fair hall, but a summer mood by the water. The trip to Rüschlikon is worth it for that alone.
Food from an open fire
The restaurant Satt am See cooks on site, entirely without induction, but with real fire, plenty of smoke and even more heart. A solid base so the wine doesn't land in your stomach alone.
The Südhang team
The crew from the Oerlikon location is on hand too. Meaning: enough people to tell you what's in the glass without it sounding like a wine-snob lecture.
Tips for the visit
Come by train or boat
Rüschlikon is on the S-Bahn line along the left shore of Lake Zurich, and in summer the scheduled boat runs too. If you're tasting, you're better off leaving the car at home anyway.
Monday is quieter
Saturday and Sunday are, in our experience, the busiest. If you prefer it more relaxed, come on Monday between 3 and 7 pm.
Bring some time
At an open tasting it pays to go through calmly, eat something and return a second time to your favourites. So don't plan too tightly.
