Ticinowine is the promotional organisation for Ticino wine, based in Morbio Inferiore, which brings the more than 200 wines from Ticino's wineries to a wider audience. The grape that defines the region is Merlot, which arrived in Ticino in 1906 after the phylloxera crisis and today accounts for around 82 percent of the vineyard area. Ticinowine also organises its own events, such as Vini in Villa in November in Lugano and Cantine Aperte in May, when the wineries open their doors. The programme is rounded out by masterclasses and cellar experiences directly at the wineries.
