Zentralschweizer Weinbauverein

The Zentralschweizer Weinbauverein represents a young wine region that had almost disappeared by 1950, even though vines were widespread there in medieval times. Founding president Karl Schmidli first had to convince the authorities the region was suited to wine growing; today the association unites over 150 members from Seetal, Sempachersee, Lake Lucerne, Wiggertal, Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden and Zug. The vineyard area has tripled over the past 15 years to 73 hectares, 64 of them in the canton of Lucerne, an achievement celebrated among other things at the annual Tag der Zentralschweizer Weine in November.
